As you've been reading the Psalms, you may come across some terms that will throw you off. Here's a quick rundown of some popular words:

Selah - while the exact meaning of this word that occurs frequently in the Psalms is unknown, it is generally thought of to be a musical notation instructing the musicians to pause or insert an interlude for the purpose of reflection.

Maskil - The meaning of this term is also debated, but is thought to be a label given to a psalm that was commonly used for teaching and instruction. 

Miktam - Six Psalms contain this description, but there is almost no certainty on what it means. Your guess is as good as mine!
